Six months before officially turning 100, American Airlines has revealed its special Flagship livery, which will begin flying in November on a Boeing 777-300 registered as N735AT. This design combines historical elements of the airline with a modern style, marking the start of its centennial celebrations.

“American has chosen a design that evokes our rich history while looking ahead to our next 100 years,” said Ron DeFeo, the company’s Chief Communications Officer.

Design: A Journey Through Time

The base of this new paint scheme uses the characteristic Silver Eagle tone, found on more than 1,600 aircraft in the airline’s mainline and regional fleet.

The iconic orange eagle stripe, a symbol that debuted nearly 90 years ago on the Douglas DC-3—an aircraft that marked the beginning of American Airlines’ premium experience—stands out on both sides of the fuselage.

The Boeing 777-300 will also bear the name “Flagship DFW,” in honor of the airline’s primary hub in Dallas-Fort Worth. At the rear, passengers will see a circular emblem featuring the globe-connected eagle, one of the most recognizable motifs in the company’s history.

Today, American Airlines operates more flights and carries more customers than any other airline, connecting over 350 global destinations. Since its first flight in 1926, the company has been synonymous with innovation and premium service.

Evolution of the Flagship Experience

Since the 1930s, the “Flagship” name has been tied to American Airlines’ highest level of service. What began on transcontinental routes now encompasses its international long-haul network and exclusive products like Flagship Lounges and Flagship Business Class.

Starting next year, its fleet of Boeing 777-300 aircraft will receive a complete interior refurbishment, incorporating the new Flagship Suite seats, an evolution of the onboard luxury and comfort concept.

Innovation in Every Cabin

The new cabin products, unveiled during the summer, reflect American’s commitment to a modern and comfortable journey:

  • Flagship Suite: The airline’s business class with privacy doors, wireless chargers, and an exclusive chaise lounge with an adjustable cushion.
  • Premium Economy: The first US airline to offer wireless charging, new winged headrests, and improved footrests.
  • Main Cabin: An elevated international experience with 4K QLED screens, USB-C ports, and AC power outlets, a pioneering innovation in this class.

The refurbished Boeing 777-300s will feature 70 Flagship Suite seats and 44 in Premium Economy, reaffirming the company’s focus on passenger personalization and comfort.

A Century of History, Design, and Legacy

As part of its anniversary, American Airlines invites aviation enthusiasts to join the celebration through the American Airlines Brand Store.

The store offers historical items, vintage advertisements, and exclusive images, plus a line of centennial commemorative products. These items, ideal for the holiday season, pay tribute to the design and aviation legacy that has defined the airline for generations.

The new Flagship livery doesn’t just adorn an aircraft; it encapsulates 100 years of history and a vision for the future.

With its distinctive blend of tradition and innovation, American Airlines reaffirms its commitment to providing premium experiences that maintain its global leadership and its connection with millions of travelers.
