Qantas is set to make history by establishing the first non-stop connection between Australia and Las Vegas, optimizing trans-Pacific connectivity. This new seasonal route will save passengers up to five hours of travel time by eliminating technical stopovers in other United States cities.
Operational Details of the Sydney-Las Vegas Route
The Australian flag carrier will deploy its long-range fleet to cover this unprecedented journey, integrating Las Vegas as the 101st destination in its global network.
- Aircraft: The service will be operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
- Frequency: Three weekly flights, scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
- Operational Period: The inaugural flight will take off on December 29, 2026, and will remain operational until March 12, 2027.
Strategic Expansion in North America
With the addition of Las Vegas, Qantas consolidates its presence in the Americas, adding this terminal to its current list of destinations, which includes Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, Dallas, New York, Vancouver, and Santiago de Chile.

Driven by Global Events and Sports Demand
The scheduling of these flights deliberately coincides with high-profile events that attract a massive flow of international travelers:
- Consumer Electronics Show: The world’s most influential technology trade show.
- Las Vegas National Rugby League Festival: The season opener of the rugby league, which has become a milestone for Australian fans.
Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, noted that the previous success of seasonal routes to Rome and Sapporo confirmed the demand for direct connections during specific periods of the year. Wallace highlighted that the renewal of the company’s historic fleet provides the necessary flexibility to open routes that were previously not viable.
Economic and Tourism Impact
The implementation of this direct flight responds to a compelling statistic: Australia is the second-largest overseas market for Las Vegas and the primary international market that lacked a non-stop flight until now.
“More than 250,000 Australians visit Las Vegas every year,” stated Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), who described the new service as a testament to the strength of the Australian market.
For his part, the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, emphasized that the route not only benefits Australian outbound travelers but also facilitates the entry of American tourists. During the last year, 745,000 Americans visited Australia—a figure expected to increase with this new logistical ease.
This announcement marks a milestone in Qantas’ network strategy, utilizing its operational capacity to directly connect entertainment and technology hubs with the Oceanic market. Flights are already available for booking.
