Avianca Launches Seasonal Direct Route Between Guatemala and San Francisco for World Cup Season
Avianca has launched a new seasonal non-stop route connecting Guatemala City with San Francisco, United States. This temporary operation is a strategic move to boost the airline’s connectivity ahead of the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted in the US, facilitating passenger flow for both tourism and business travel.
Strategic Connectivity for the North American Market
The new direct route will operate from June 1 through August 31, 2026. With this initiative, the carrier aims to strengthen its network in the United States, a market where its operational volume already exceeds 400 weekly flights across 14 active destinations.
This route expansion is backed by the airline’s strong performance in 2025, during which it transported more than 4.9 million passengers to and from the North American nation.

Operational Details and Fleet Capacity
To meet demand for this temporary link, the airline will offer a total capacity of over 1,440 seats per week across four weekly frequencies.
- Aircraft Type: The flights will be operated using Airbus A320 family aircraft, configured with a 180-passenger capacity.
- Inflight Experience: Passengers on this route will have access to the Business Class Americas experience. This premium service was successfully rolled out in January 2026 across 100% of eligible routes, directly connecting the United States with Central America, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Flight Schedules
The schedules and frequencies for this seasonal service are structured as follows:
- Guatemala – San Francisco: Commences June 1, 2026, departing at 1:20 a.m. and arriving at 6:25 a.m. Operating on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- San Francisco – Guatemala: Commences June 1, 2026, departing at 7:45 a.m. and arriving at 2:15 p.m.
The airline’s schedule also features connecting feeder flights for these services: the San Salvador – Guatemala leg will operate from May 31, 2026, departing at 11:20 p.m. and arriving at 12:10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Meanwhile, the Guatemala – San Salvador sector will depart at 3:20 p.m. and land at 4:10 p.m. on Mondays.
According to Rolando Damas, Avianca’s Sales Director for North America, launching this direct link underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its global connectivity network. This route not only broadens travel options for corporate and leisure segments but is also opportunistically positioned to capture the surge in passenger demand from fans planning to attend World Cup sporting events in the United States.
