JetBlue receives its first A220-300.

JetBlue announced on Thursday that it formally received its first Airbus A220-300, marking the beginning of a new era for the airline’s fleet.

The aircraft arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), JetBlue’s home, from the Airbus production plant in Mobile, Alabama.

This is the first of JetBlue’s 70 A220 aircraft to be ordered, which will be phased in to replace the existing fleet of 60 Embraer 190 aircraft.

“The A220 is a next-generation aircraft that will delight our customers and crew members, with impressive range and superior economics to support critical financial and operational priorities along with new network planning flexibility,” said Robin Hayes, JetBlue’s CEO.

“JetBlue has revolutionized air travel, and we at Airbus are proud that our 20-year relationship has contributed to the airline’s many successes. This first delivery of the A220-300 creates new route possibilities for JetBlue, and elevates the passenger experience to even higher levels,” said C. Jeffrey Knittel, President and CEO of Airbus Americas.
