The announcement follows a detailed audit, conducted by Skytrax’s team in December 2020, which evaluated the effectiveness and consistency of the airline’s strict COVID-19 health and safety standards and procedures, from flight check-in to onboard the aircraft. This included a complete review of procedural efficiency controls, visual observation of health and safety levels at all stages of passenger travel and on-board adenosine triphosphate (ATP) sampling tests to measure the potential level of contamination on contact surfaces.

The achievement of Skytrax’s COVID-19 5-star airline safety rating comes on top of the fact that Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar Airways’ headquarters and hub, was recently named the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to receive Skytrax’s COVID-19 5-star safety rating in December 2020.
“As an industry leader and the ‘Best Airline in the World’, as Skytrax is called, we are well used to setting the standard for others to follow. We are delighted that our commitment to provide the most rigorous and comprehensive COVID-19 safety program in the global aviation community has been recognized with Skytrax’s 5-star COVID-19 airline safety rating, said Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker.
