Iberia will convert one of its facilities into an aeronautical industrial center.

Iberia has a plan to convert its land in La Muñoza, next to Madrid-Barajas airport, into an industrial aeronautical hub that will be a “center of reference” in Europe for aircraft maintenance.

The president of the airline, Javier Sánchez Prieto, presented the project this Friday to the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís.

This project is intended to be an urban development project that will reindustrialize this area of 1.7 million square meters, of which around 220,000 will be destined for aircraft maintenance, close to the capital’s airport, reported EFE.

Sánchez Prieto pointed out that Iberia is working “not only for the present but also for the future” with this innovation center, which he described as a “magnificent opportunity” for Madrid.

It has a “dual purpose” as it aims to boost the “state-of-the-art engine maintenance business” and promote an aeronautical training school that will focus on dual vocational training for young people and on training that will enable unemployed people to retrain in aviation-related professions.
