Panama: Tocumen Airport Increases Passenger Traffic in May
Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport recorded 1,304,604 passengers during the month of May, which represents 703,326 more travelers compared to the same month in 2021.
Through May, the level of passengers was significant, so Tocumen S. A. expects the flow of travelers through its terminals to recover faster than previously expected.

“We are observing that the pace of recovery is accelerating, although the industry is still cautious, due to an environment marked by the pandemic, in addition to the wars and their impact on oil prices,” said Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport.
“The full opening of Terminal 2 is another element that will bring strength to our regional and global competitive position,” noted Arab.”
Destinations and markets
In terms of international connections, in May Tocumen increased direct routes to 78 destinations, through 20 commercial airlines that offer services to the main cities in the Americas and Europe.
The airport indicated that of the total passengers that used the Tocumen terminal, 76% were connecting passengers.

According to data provided by the Statistics Department of Tocumen International Airport, the markets with the best regional performance in May were South America with 46%, followed by North America with 29%, the Caribbean 11%, while Central America contributed 9%, and the European markets contributed 5%.
During the month of May 2022, there were 11,223 aircraft arrivals and departures.
Regional terminals
Domestic traffic at the regional terminals managed by Tocumen International Airport registered 16,923 passengers and 1,610 aircraft operations in May.
As part of the economic reactivation plan led by President Laurentino Cortizo, on June 22, 2002, the new Tocumen Terminal 2 will be fully operational and then the Panama Pacifico Terminal will be reopened for low-cost airlines.
