Boeing deliveries drop in July due to 737 supply chain problems
Boeing delivered fewer planes in July than European rival Airbus, as the U.S. manufacturer continued to work to overcome logistical and supply chain disruptions affecting its 737.
Boeing said Tuesday it delivered 43 planes in July, 17 fewer than in June and 22 fewer than Airbus delivered last month.
Deliveries of the 737 MAX fell from 48 in June to 32 in July, marking the lowest level since April, when the company discovered that tail brackets had been incorrectly installed on about 75% of the 737s in its inventory.
Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun stated in July that the ongoing realignment to correct the bracket defect, a work stoppage at supplier Spirit AeroSystems and a bridge collapse that affected rail deliveries of the 737 airframe could “cost us some deliveries” in the third quarter.

Boeing announced last month that it had begun increasing 737 production from 31 to 38 jets a month, but CFO Brian West said it would take time to reach that level consistently.
In addition to the MAXs, Boeing in July delivered four 787 Dreamliners, three 767s, three 777 freighters and a next-generation 737 that will become a P-8 maritime patrol aircraft for the U.S. Navy.
The company recorded 52 gross orders during the month, including a previously announced sale of 39 Dreamliners to Saudia, with no cancellations. Airbus recorded 60 gross orders in July.
Boeing’s gross orders since the beginning of January totaled 579 in July, or 467 net orders after taking into account cancellations and conversions.
Overall, Boeing’s commercial backlog increased from 4,879 to 4,928.
