Copa Holdings, the parent company of Copa Airlines and Wingo, presented its financial results for the second quarter of 2026 (2Q26).
Revenue Growth and Cost Discipline Amid Fuel Price Pressures
During the second quarter of 2026, Copa Holdings demonstrated the strength of its business model and disciplined operational execution in an environment marked by a substantial increase in jet fuel prices.
The company reported a 25.7% year-over-year growth in operating revenue compared to the same period in 2025. However, pressure from energy costs impacted final operating margins:
- Operating Profit: Stood at US$ 91.7 million, achieving an operating margin of 8.7% (representing a 13.1 percentage point reduction compared to 2Q25).
- Net Income: Reached US$ 68.2 million, or US$ 1.67 per share (a 53.9% year-over-year decline in earnings per share).
- Passenger Yield: Increased 8.7% year-over-year to 12.6 cents.
- Revenue per Available Seat Mile (RASM): Rose 7.9% year-over-year to 11.6 cents.
- Capacity (ASM): Available Seat Miles grew 16.5% year-over-year.
- Load Factor: Averaged 86.7%, compared to the 87.3% recorded in 2Q25 (-0.6 percentage points).

Financial Strength, Liquidity, and Shareholder Returns
Copa Holdings closed the quarter with a robust financial position, accumulating approximately US$ 1.5 billion in cash, alongside short- and long-term investments. This figure is equivalent to 39% of total revenues generated over the last twelve months.
In terms of leverage and balance sheet health, the company finished 2Q26 with a Net Debt to EBITDA ratio of 0.9x.
Regarding investor returns, the Board of Directors of Copa Holdings approved the following measure:
Fleet Expansion and Ongoing Operational Performance
During the quarter, the carrier continued its fleet modernization plan after taking delivery of 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, bringing its fleet to a total of 131 aircraft at the end of June 2026: 119 operated by Copa Airlines, 10 by Wingo, and 2 by Copa Cargo.
Operationally, Copa Airlines reaffirmed its position as one of the global airline industry’s most reliable and punctual carriers:
- On-Time Performance (OTP): 90.6% for the quarter.
- Flight Completion Factor: 99.8%.
Strategic Milestones: Starlink Wi-Fi Connectivity and Evolution of the Hub of the Americas
In post-quarter events, Copa Airlines marked major milestones for Latin American aviation:
1. First Carrier with Starlink Technology in Latin America
On July 4, 2026, Copa Airlines operated its first flight equipped with Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet system. With this step, it becomes the first Latin American airline to offer this inflight connectivity technology. The company projects completing fleet-wide installation of the service by the first half of 2027.
2. Transition to 8 Connecting Banks in Panama
In July 2026, the company published its new schedules, reflecting the transition from six to eight connecting banks at its main hub at Tocumen International Airport (Hub of the Americas) in Panama City.
- Effective Date: This new schedule structure will formally begin operations in March 2027.
- Operational Benefits: Expanding to eight banks will offer passengers more flight options and improved connection times, while maximizing aircraft utilization and optimizing airport facilities.
3. Copa’s Sixth Destination in Venezuela
In August, Copa Airlines announced it will fly to Margarita Island starting November 26, 2026. The new route will operate 3 weekly frequencies.
Despite a high energy cost environment, Copa Holdings maintains a solid balance sheet, competitive liquidity, and positive operating margins.
