A large number of relatively old aircraft need to be replaced at Air France, KLM and Transavia. At Air France these are dozens of Airbus A320ceos and A321ceos, at KLM and Transavia Boeing 737 NG.

As one of the last major airlines in the world, Air France-KLM has not yet placed orders for the new generation of Airbus and Boeing narrow-body aircraft: the A320neo family and the 737 MAX.

“We analyzed an elongated version of the A220-300, also called A220-500. This aircraft, which has not yet been launched by Airbus, could replace the Air France A320. In addition, long-range versions of the A321neo, A321LR and XLR are options,” Smith said.

To replace the old Air France A318 and A319, the group already ordered 60 A220-300s last summer.
