American Airlines is preparing to celebrate 40 years of AAdvantage. First launched in 1981, it was one of the first airline loyalty programs.
This Monday, the airline will launch a month-long promotion filled with rewards and special offers designed to inspire travel. AAdvantage members can check AAdvantage40th.com to play and learn more about the program.
Instant rewards include Admirals Club memberships and day passes, AAdvantage miles, $20 digital MasterCard gift cards, seat upgrades and other member offers, such as 20% off a Hyatt resort vacation, Hertz upgrades and many others.
There are a total of 1,392,040 instant rewards during the four-week promotion that runs through May 3.
In addition to the instant prizes and offers, members can also earn daily entries into a sweepstakes where 40 winners will earn 1 million AAdvantage miles. The second place winner will win a two-night travel package for four to Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida.
When the AAdvantage program began on May 1, 1981, membership was by invitation only and rewards included a first-class ticket to any destination American flew to. Today, the program has more than 115 million members, of which 144,000 have been active since the first year.
“AAdvantage continues to be the most customer-friendly airline loyalty program. Throughout our first 40 years, it has been our privilege to reward members for their continued loyalty to American with innovative benefits, unique partnerships and an evolving program that is made for every customer,” said Rick Elieson, President of the AAdvantage program.
