On Tuesday night, the Colombian Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) confirmed, through a statement, that the integration of Avianca and Viva Air was authorized but with certain conditions, after analyzing the request since August 2022, which the low cost airline requested with the intention of saving itself from bankruptcy.
Among the conditions to give the green light to such integration are:
1. That the rights of VIVA’s users be respected, that tickets for cancelled flights be reimbursed and that those who have tickets pending execution be allowed to fly. In any case, they must respond to the Low Cost passengers affected by the company’s unilateral decisions to cease operations.

2. The return of the slots that imply aggravating the situation of concentration in the most demanded slots (prime) for both the summer and winter seasons, both in departures and arrivals, with the purpose of not increasing the entry barriers that access to the infrastructure of El Dorado Airport generates for this market.
Prime slots are those that move between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
3. Maintain VIVA’s low cost scheme as an option in air transportation, which materializes options for air service users.
4. The return of frequencies on the Bogota – Buenos Aires route, which is particularly impacted.
5. Maintain an effective fare cap on routes where the integrated entity is left with 100%.
6. To guarantee dynamism in the routes subject to greater concentration.
The Aerocivil assured that the decision was made after taking stock of the crisis that caused the suspension of operations of Viva Air.
