Frontier Airlines Requests Authorization to Fly Between Miami and Bogota
The U.S.-based airline Frontier Airlines has submitted an application to Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority (Aeronáutica Civil) for the opening of a new international route connecting Miami, Florida, with Bogotá, Colombia.
According to the submitted documentation, the airline plans to operate this route with a frequency of two weekly flights. Frontier will use Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft for these operations. Additionally, the application includes operations under third and fourth freedom traffic rights.
It is worth noting that the airline also applied in January to Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority for permission to operate flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Bogotá.
If these applications are approved, Bogotá will become Frontier’s first destination in South America. The airline would then compete with Avianca on the San Juan-Bogotá route and with American Airlines, Emirates, LATAM, and Avianca on the Miami-Bogotá route.
