American Airlines has officially incorporated the Airbus A321XLR into its fleet, marking a new chapter in its commitment to offering a premium experience on transcontinental travel. Tickets for its inaugural flight—Flight 3 on December 18 between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles—are already available on the airline’s website and app.

A New Standard in Comfort and Style

“Designed for long-haul routes with comfort and style as a priority, American is proud to be the first U.S. airline to operate the A321XLR,” stated Heather Garboden, American’s Director of Customer Experience. “Whether passengers are traveling coast-to-coast or across the ocean, our new aircraft reflects the commitment to delivering a premium experience.”

The first A321XLR was delivered on Wednesday, October 22, directly from the Airbus assembly line in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft features a three-cabin configuration that reinforces American’s strategy of elevating service quality on long-haul routes.

A Cabin Designed for Every Type of Traveler

Each Airbus A321XLR incorporates 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats, and 123 Main Cabin seats. Initially, the model will operate transcontinental routes within the United States, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy, for the first time, the new fully reclining Flagship Suite seats.

These seats offer greater privacy thanks to their individual doors, extra storage space, a wireless charger, a cocktail table, and a personal reading light. As American receives more A321XLR units, the model will gradually expand to international routes during the first half of 2026.

Flagship Suite: A Refined Experience Onboard and on the Ground

The Flagship Suite service includes premium benefits from the start of the journey: priority check-in, expedited security access, priority boarding, special baggage handling, and access to the exclusive Greenwich Lounge™ at JFK airport. This space offers high-level cuisine and unique cocktails in a relaxing and elegant atmosphere.

During the flight, passengers enjoy a multi-course menu designed to pair with award-winning wines, amenity kits with luxury skincare products, and a comfortable duvet with a dual-sided pillow, combining traditional fabric with a cooling-touch material.

Enhanced Comfort in Premium Economy

Passengers who choose the new A321XLR Premium Economy seats will find a seatback with a wraparound headrest for increased privacy, an adjustable footrest and leg rest, a wireless charger, and an enhanced meal service with hot dishes. They will also receive an amenity kit with premium personal care products, an Ostrichpillow lumbar pillow, and a crepe-weave blanket for comfortable rest.
