Miami airport breaks cargo volume record in 2020.

Miami International Airport (MIA) closed 2020 with a cargo volume of 2.32 million tons, 57,382 more than the previous year, the specialized online magazine Airport World indicated Thursday.

“The gateway to Florida finished the year exceptionally strong with an average of 210,000 tons in October, November and December, making them the airport’s busiest months for cargo volumes,” this media outlet reported.

MIA also closed 2020 with a record 59,000 cargo-only flights, which was nearly 8,000 more flights than in 2019, EFE reviewed.

“Our record year would not have been possible without the strong partnership we shared with each and every airline, federal agency and logistics provider who adapted and maintained their services during the pandemic,” said MIA Director and CEO Lester Sola.

Sola expressed appreciation for the “continued support” and advanced that they expect to reach “even greater levels together in 2021 as we facilitate the most essential trade in our region and the world.”

MIA stood out as the busiest airport in the United States for international cargo and perishables, and continues to be a global hub for essential supplies and e-commerce during the pandemic.
