KLM Announces Summer Flight Schedule: More Destinations and Increased Capacity

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced this Thursday its flight schedule for the summer 2025 season, which will be in effect from March 30 to October 25. The airline will operate a total of 161 destinations, of which 95 are in Europe and 66 are intercontinental. Compared to last summer, the company will increase its seat capacity by 4%, although its intercontinental capacity will continue to operate at 90% due to delays in aircraft parts deliveries and a shortage of pilots.

Intercontinental Network Expansion

For this summer, KLM is expanding its intercontinental network with the addition of three new destinations:

  • San Diego (United States)
  • Georgetown (Guyana)
  • Hyderabad (India)

Additionally, the airline will continue operating flights to Portland (United States), a destination that was added during the 2024 winter season. To strengthen its long-haul routes, the company will introduce three new Boeing 787-10 aircraft.

Increased Frequencies on Key Routes

The new summer schedule includes increased flight frequencies to several intercontinental destinations:

  • Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania): Daily flights will be offered starting in June, compared to five weekly flights in 2024, representing a 30% increase in seat capacity.
  • Osaka (Japan): Up to five weekly flights starting in April.
  • Las Vegas (United States): Frequency increased to daily flights, compared to five weekly flights in 2024.
  • Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): Daily frequency will be maintained.
  • Edmonton (Canada): Five weekly flights will be available, increasing to six during peak periods.

In total, KLM will increase its flights to North America by 10% compared to the summer of 2024.

Expansion and Adjustments in Europe

Within Europe, the airline is adding three new destinations to its network: Ljubljana (Slovenia), Exeter (United Kingdom), and Biarritz (France).

Additionally, the company has decided to concentrate its operations at Milan-Linate, an airport closer to the city center, which means the cancellation of flights to Milan-Malpensa.

Another significant change in the short- and medium-haul fleet is the increased use of the Airbus A321neo. During the summer season, the number of these aircraft in operation will increase from five to ten, improving the efficiency and sustainability of European routes.

The airline has also increased the frequency of flights to several key European destinations:

  • Belfast (United Kingdom): Two daily flights.
  • Porto (Portugal): Four daily flights.
  • Barcelona (Spain): One additional daily flight.
  • Split (Croatia): Two daily flights in spring and autumn.
  • Krakow (Poland) and Poznań (Poland): Additional flights have been added.

Thanks to these increases, KLM will offer 25% more seats to Portugal and Croatia compared to the summer 2024 season.
