WestJet announced a significant expansion of its domestic network for summer 2025 on Tuesday, with a strong focus on Halifax as a key connecting hub. The expansion includes three new non-stop routes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport and one from Winnipeg, along with increased frequencies on existing routes.
New Non-Stop Routes: Enhanced Connectivity from Halifax
Starting in late June and early July 2025, WestJet will add direct flights from Halifax to Saskatoon, Regina, and Vancouver, as well as new service between Winnipeg and St. John’s.
Schedule for New Routes:
- Halifax – Vancouver: 4 times weekly, starting July 1, 2025
- Halifax – Saskatoon: 1 time weekly, starting June 28, 2025
- Halifax – Regina: 1 time weekly, starting June 29, 2025
- Winnipeg – St. John’s: 2 times weekly, starting July 1, 2025

Increased Frequencies: More Flights on Key Routes
In addition to the new routes, WestJet will bolster its current network with significant frequency increases. The Winnipeg–Halifax route will grow to 10 weekly flights, a 43% increase, while Edmonton–Halifax will rise to 13 weekly flights, an 8% increase compared to 2024. In Eastern Canada, the Calgary–Deer Lake route will also be strengthened, with a 50% increase to three weekly flights.
Direct Link to Europe: The Strategic Value of Halifax and St. John’s
These enhancements not only improve connectivity within Canada but also enhance access to WestJet’s transatlantic network. From Halifax and St. John’s, passengers can connect to direct flights to European cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, and London. This strategy aims to simplify travel to Europe from Eastern Canada, with just one stop or even direct flights.
“These routes provide more options for our passengers across the country and make it easier to access our transatlantic network from Halifax and St. John’s,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. “We are focused on taking people where they want to go—whether reuniting with loved ones in the Prairies, exploring new destinations in the Maritimes, or seamlessly connecting to Europe.”
With this expansion, WestJet reinforces its commitment to offering more routes, better frequencies, and strategic connectivity both domestically and internationally.
