Avianca has announced the addition of two Airbus A330-900 aircraft to its fleet, a strategic investment aimed at boosting connectivity in Colombia and throughout the Americas. These units, scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2026, will strengthen the operational capacity of the Abra Group on medium and long-haul routes.
Widebody Fleet Expansion
The arrival of these two new aircraft represents significant growth for the airline’s infrastructure. Currently, the carrier operates 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft on its international routes; with this new addition, the fleet is being optimized to meet growing demand in both regional and global markets.

Strategic Vision and Role of Abra Group
This fleet update is not merely a technical requirement but part of a growth roadmap defined by the group’s leadership. According to Gabriel Oliva, COO of Avianca Group, the incorporation of these units is a “fundamental step” toward expanding the Americas’ connectivity network with the rest of the world.
Furthermore, this move reinforces the competitive position of the Abra Group—the aeronautical conglomerate to which Avianca belongs—by providing it with greater operational capabilities to compete in the long-haul route segment.
